Melanie Furuta, wedding planner extraordinaire, came to us with this amazing
couple, Shannon and Bill. They knew exactly what they wanted – a color palette
of grey, yellow and teal – with peacock feather design included. They are a fun
couple, and wanted a touch of whimsy in their stationery. So, we went heavy on
the text – and had so much fun with the different typography. The colors popped
with the peacock feather design, and we bundled the entire suite with a cute
yellow and white checked ribbon. Perfection!
We also had so much fun pulling together all of the fun “day of” paperie for the
wedding. From a custom “Here Comes the Bride” banner for the flower girls
and ring bearer to hold (to die for cute!) to the menus, escort cards, thank you
tags, ceremony programs, thank you sets, etc…each piece came together
perfectly. And, the best part was, Shannon was an absolute *dream* client!
Always polite, always appreciative, and very decisive…she literally was one of
our easiest and most wonderful brides to date!
We were so excited to be featured alongside the amazing Jasmine Star (photographer)
and the other incredible vendors we had the pleasure of working with on this wedding.
Thank you to Green Wedding Shoes for the feature!
Custom stationery is an art. It is something that takes time – a lot of time -and something that is a custom and unique creation for each individual client. The materials we use are of the highest quality, and all materials are ordered specifically for each individual job that we produce. We are not a warehouse with pre-done designs and endless amounts of stock and embellishments on our shelves. Because of this, and because of the amount of time we put in to *every* single job, the price of custom invitations is going to naturally be higher than the pricing of stores with “book” invitations
and warehouses on the internet.
I decided to blog about our process, and our “starting” price points – just for education purposes. I feel that a big part of my job is educating brides and clients when it comes to custom stationery. And, I really do *enjoy* this aspect of my job, and I do not expect that the average client should know all of the ins and outs of the stationery world. That’s why I’m the expert.
So, without further ado – a little glimpse in to the Process and the Pricing of custom stationery.
An in – person consultation is always best – so the client can come in to our studio, view our portfolio, and touch and feel all of the luxurious paper samples we have to offer. If the client is not local (and we work with clients all over the world!) – we can easily execute the process via snail mail, phone and email (PDF proofs).
Once the desired style and design is established (via in person consultation, or email) – a proposal is written up and emailed. At this point, a 50% deposit and signed contract is collected (once the proposal is approved), and the client is entered in to our production schedule. Depending on the time of year, and our work load, we can *generally* produce the first round of proofs within one week of the client going under contract.
We have a “third time’s the charm” proof process.
First round = style is established (i.e. 4 main invitations are presented – fonts, color and design are narrowed down here)
Second round = suite proof (main invitation with corresponding pieces)
Third round = another suite proof – based on feedback from previous rounds
Fourth round = final print approval
During the proof process, I am always available for correspondence and “hand holding”. I provide assistance with text and formatting, etiquette, and am always just a listening ear for anything and everything relating to stationery (and often, “life”!). This is generally a fun time where I get to know my clients – and often, where they become more than just a client, but truly a friend.
Once the proofs are approved and the client has signed off to print, we move to the printing stage. Timing for printing is going to depend upon the style of printing. Digital and offset jobs can be turned around (ususally) within one week – thermography and letterpress is often 2-3 weeks before the job is returned to us for assembly.
After the printing is finished, it comes back in house for assembly – which is all done by hand. Every ribbon, piece of lace, cardstock mount is adhered and assembled by hand. Assembly generally takes one week after the items have returned from print.
Last but not least…we package everything in our gorgeous custom boxes – complete with bows and a Posh Paperie tag – with many many thanks!
Now that you understand a little bit of the Process…on to the Pricing!
As you can see, the process is time consuming, labor intensive, and *customized* to each and every client. This, coupled with the fact that we use only the highest quality supplies, is why custom invitations are going to be priced higher than a pre – done design that can be ordered from an internet warehouse, or ordered out of a book.
Our *general* starting price point for wedding invitations is:
$1,200 for 100 quantity.
This would include:
One additional insert (think: accommodations, written directions, website card, etc.)
Envelope liners, embellishments (ribbons, lace, crystals, feathers, etc.), specialty printing (thermography, letterpress), hand drawn artwork (maps),
hand painting, etc. would all come at an additional cost.
Our pricing is very competitive with companies that are similar to ours – boutique custom stationery companies – and in many cases, is actually *lower* than come invitations that can be ordered out of books. Most clients are comfortable with this pricing – if they understand the way custom stationery works, and if paper is important to them. We totally understand that not everyone is a paper person – and that weddings and events are expensive! Sometimes, custom stationery just isn’t in the budget, and that is understandable, and totally okay.
The next time you go to Target and pick up a greeting card to send to someone…take note of the pricing. Generally, for a mass produced card with blank envelope – the cost can be anywhere from $3.00 – $7.00+. Now, think about the custom world of stationery – the meetings, email communications, design, printing and assembly – and all of the pieces that are included in a wedding invitation. Doesn’t make $12.00 each sound so bad, huh?!
FINAL PRODUCT: letterpress goodness.
I love getting the chance to let you know about how truly *custom* custom stationery is!!

How did you find out about posh paperie?
I was on a relentless pursuit for the perfect invitations for our wedding. I was looking through The Knot magazine and saw the most beautiful wedding (Karrie & Brian Pyke’s) and fell in love with the gorgeous and unique silhouette themed invitations & paper goods. Once I saw Posh Paperie’s website and spoke with Elizabeth, I knew immediately I wanted to work with Posh Paperie!
What events have we been able to help create special paper goods for your family?
Every thing from our entire wedding suite, , Christmas cards, Baby Shower Invites, Art for our daughter’s room, and our daughter’s birth announcements. I am so excited to have Elizabeth & Karrie design our daugther’s upcoming 1st Birthday party invitation (and it is 6 months away, ha!).
How many years have we known each other now?!
VP: 3+ years!!
Tell us a little bit about your family… + yourself!
My husband, Logan and I live in Chicago (for the last 9 1/2 years!). We are blessed parents to our sweet 6 month old daughter, Isla Grace. We love watching our little girl grow and everything that entails – early mornings with her, trips to the zoo, picnics in the park, diapers and being up at wee hours of the morning!
PP:Why do you love working with ( and being Bff’s with Posh paperie) ? ha
These lovely ladies are ridiculously talented and creative!!! I am blown away each day by their latest and greatest creations – from hand drawn maps, ombre hand painted edges to thoughtfully selected swoon-worthy ribbon & paper – they “design outside the box”. Elizabeth & Karrie truly know how to bring a client’s vision to life and express it in a unique and innovative way. They put so much love and hard work into each piece they design for their clients.
Aside from their gorgeous paper goods, Elizabeth & Karrie care so deeply about their clients. I have been so incredibly blessed to have found two of my *dearest* friends. Who would have thought that a girl searching for the perfect wedding invitation would have found lifelong friendships?
